A Life Changed
May 31, 2010by Shelly Mutch, Special Project Coordinator at Forest Home
At a financial seminar I attended on Saturday, I had the opportunity to hear another story of a life that was changed because of a week at Forest Home.
When Diane heard that I worked for Forest Home, she was quick to tell me her life was CHANGED at Forest Home. She went on to tell me how she came as a newly divorced woman with a 3-year-old son in 1972. It was not an easy time in her life. She hadn't yet come to grips with her divorce. She was still saying to herself, others and God that she was separated; she just couldn't say the word "divorced".
The speaker that week talked about the work of the Holy Spirit in a way Diane had never heard or understood. A friend came alongside her and challenged her to thank God for all that was going on in her life. When Diane thanked God for all in her life and very cautiously thanked him for her "separation", her friend encouraged her to thank God for her "divorce". Diane thanked God for her divorce and how He would use that in her life. She went on to ask God to show Himself and His power so she would know she could depend on Him.
She shared with me how her young son was having a hard time going to his morning program and would cling to her. The very next morning (after her prayer for God to show himself ) her son was in a hurry to get to his class - even before the door opened! He couldn't wait to be with his friends and teachers.
Later Diane was able to send a gift to Forest Home to help other single parents experience a life-changing week at Forest Home. She was told that her gift came at just the right time.
Just think, 40 years from now someone else will be sharing how their life was changed because of a week of camp at Forest Home during the summer of 2010.
