My adrenaline kicked into overdrive as I watched the infamous Millennium Falcon enter light speed with the release of the new Star Wars Movie: The Force Awakens. With Kaden on my left and Nicole on my right, I was overwhelmed with emotion as I remembered watching the same ship race across the galaxy with my father in 1977.
Two thoughts emerged. First, it was a blast to experience Star Wars on the big screen with my own kids (for those Star War junkies, I’m certain we share in this). Second and much more powerful was the question, “Where did the last 39 years go?” I feel like I’ve been on the Millennium Falcon… how did we get from 1977 to 2016 in the blink of an eye. My mind thought back to God’s Word, “What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (James 4:14).
The following week I stood in silence at my mom’s gravesite as I fixed upon the dates 1942-1996. This drove my thoughts even deeper… life truly is a vapor.
We have all shared in these ponderings at various times. As we hyper-speed into 2016, may they spur us to a total and complete surrender to Christ and His will in our lives. As we seek Him through His Word and prayer we have confidence that he is building His house in our lives and that these are not wasted days (Psalm 127:1). May each word uttered from our mouths, each thought deliberated in our minds, and each action taken through our frames be drenched in the power of the Holy Spirit… so to carry out the will of God and proclaim the Good News of Jesus in these short moments we have on this side of Heaven.
May you live in the power of His Spirit. May each day be a testimony to the power of God as we seek to build His Kingdom in our families, neighborhoods, schools, churches and Forest Home.
May The Force be with you in 2016… the True, All-Powerful One!
