Ever wondered what a Family Retreat is all about? Curious as to why some people choose Forest Home as a family tradition, year in and year out? Nervous about whether a retreat is worth the price? We get it. It’s hard to take the plunge and register for something you’ve never experienced! We would love to help you get a glimpse of what a Family Retreat is all about.

Nestled in a beautiful canyon in the San Bernardino Mountains, Forest Home is located on 600 plus spectacular acres. Guests are able to unwind as they drive up the highway, disconnecting from the smart phones, screens, and email. On Sunday afternoon, you will check into your cozy cabin (as rustic or deluxe as you choose!) for a week-long retreat that includes 17 meals that you don’t have to cook or clean up. All you have to pack for this vacation is a suitcase!

While the days vary as the week carries on, a typical morning will begin with children heading off to their morning camp and adults heading into their morning program after a hearty breakfast. Nationally-recognized speakers teach from the Word of God about topics relevant to today’s families, and a worship team will usher in a time of worship. This is a time of learning and encouragement with like-minded parents who are working through similar joys and challenges.

Every morning a special class awaits each of your children, from infants through college. Our FYCP (Family Youth & Children’s Program) staff plan their programs to be over-the-top fun while also helping children and young adults grow in their faith and knowledge of Jesus. Each class has a healthy balance of age-appropriate Bible teaching, outdoor adventures, worship, crafts, and discussion.

After joining back together as a family for lunch, the afternoon is wide open for you to enjoy all of the amazing recreation options Forest Home has to offer! It really is your choice how adventurous or relaxing you want your week to be. Is your family high-energy? Our Zip Line, Giant Swing, Sky Trail, and Blob at the Lake are sure to keep your spirits high. Needing some down time? Lounge by the pool with a book in hand, stroll through the peaceful woods, play a round of Miniature Golf, journal in the Prayer Chapel, or enjoy a milkshake at the Clubhouse. There are many options for your family to make those lasting memories.

Evenings include a delicious dinner as a family and then everyone is off to their evening programs. Your family is provided your very own CCA (Child Care Assistant) for all six nights of the retreat, and children 4th grade and under will be in their care each evening. (That’s right! A personal babysitter at camp!) You give her the instructions about bedtime routines and head off to your evening program, as do campers 5th grade and above.

A Family Retreat is anything but routine, and we always like to keep a few fun surprises up our sleeve. You can expect anything from a whimsical Camp Musical, an amusing stage performer, a family Zumba work out, silly family challenges, to a grown-ups-only banquet, random giveaways, and night games. Every detail of camp is planned with safety in mind, and parents find it refreshing to let loose a little and rest easy in the comfort of camp.

Truly, this is an all-inclusive vacation. Where else can you go for a week that includes your entire family’s meals, lodging, recreation, relaxation, and spiritual health for such a fair price? A Family Retreat at Forest Home is the stuff memories are made of, and in addition to Summer Family Camp, we offer several shorter retreats as well. Memorial Family Weekend offers a similar experience as the summer program, but is shortened to four days and three nights at the end of May. The Home for the Holidays Family Retreat offers the chance for families to center their hearts on the true meaning of Christmas as they get away for three days and two nights the weekend after Thanksgiving.
