Camp Theme

TRUE GRIT: Faith That Won’t Bow

Theme Verse — Daniel 1:8

“But Daniel RESOLVED in his heart not to defile himself…”

This summer at Forest Home Youth Camp, we’re saddling up for a journey through the life of Daniel, a young man whose faith carried true grit. In a world pushing him to blend in, bow down, and compromise, Daniel drew a line in the dust and resolved in his heart to honor God. His courage wasn’t loud bravado; it was quiet conviction. His strength wasn’t in defiance alone, but in deep trust that God was with him wherever he stood.

Daniel’s story reminds us that gritty faith isn’t about never feeling pressure, it’s about refusing to surrender when pressure comes. From palace halls to fiery furnaces to lion-filled nights, Daniel and his friends stood firm, proving that a resolved heart can outlast any cultural storm.

At Forest Home, our prayer is that every student discovers this same TRUE GRIT, a faith that doesn’t fold when life gets hard, but stands tall because it’s rooted in the unchanging character of God. Through powerful worship, engaging teaching, and unforgettable mountain moments, students will see that when we trust God, we never stand alone on the frontier of faith.

  • We want students to leave this mountain knowing:
  • Gritty faith chooses conviction over compromise.
  • Courage isn’t fearlessness — it’s trust in God’s presence.
  • Hope isn’t found in comfort — it’s forged in surrender.
  • Faith that stands in the fire becomes a light in the darkest night.

Our hope is that this week becomes more than a summer memory, it becomes a defining encounter with the God who still walks through the flames, still silences lions, and still strengthens His people to live with courage in a culture of compromise.

Because when hearts are resolved like Daniel’s, faith doesn’t just survive… it rides on with TRUE GRIT.

Coming & Going

Final Count & Additional Spots

You must submit your final attendance count, including your male and female breakdown, at least two weeks before your arrival. Housing assignments are not finalized until these numbers are received, allowing us to provide the best accommodations for your group and others attending camp. If you need to request additional spots, please contact our Registration team. We will do our best to accommodate your request based on availability.

Check-In / Arrival

Before arriving at camp, please log in to your Forest Home account and verify that all students and leaders have completed their required health forms. If any forms are missing, contact those participants and have them completed as soon as possible. Ensuring everyone is registered and has submitted a health form will help your check-in process go as smoothly as possible.

Check-in begins at 3:00 PM. If your group expects to arrive late due to traffic, travel delays, or other circumstances, please email our reservations team as soon as possible.

Upon arrival, check-in will take place on the Lakeview Lawn or above the Creekside Field, depending on your assigned camp center. Directional signage will be posted along the main road, and Forest Home staff members will be available throughout the arrival process to help guide and welcome your group.

After parking, the group leader (or designated representative) should proceed to the appropriate check-in area while the rest of the group remains with their counselors on the Lakeview Lawn or Creekside Field.

Please make sure the group leader brings:

  • All group medications
  • All Health Screening Forms

During check-in, a Reservations team member will provide your registration packet while our nurses and health technicians collect and process your group’s medications.

Once your group has completed check-in, the group leader will return to distribute cabin keys and wristbands. Forest Home staff will then direct your group to its assigned housing.

Dinner will be served at 5:30 PM in your camp center’s dining hall.

If you have any questions after arriving, feel free to ask any Forest Home staff member wearing a name tag.

Check-Out / Departure

On departure day, enjoy breakfast before gathering for your final session of the week.

Following the closing gathering, which concludes at approximately 10:15 AM, your group is free to depart. Please plan to be off property by 10:45 AM.

Lunch will not be served on departure day, so we encourage you to make travel plans accordingly.

First Aid & Sending Medication to Camp

Each camper is required to undergo a health screening and have that information recorded on the group’s “Health Screening Form” BEFORE arriving at camp. Please note, any ill campers or counselors should not come to camp until they are symptom free without medication for 24 hours. If a camper or counselor arrives ill or becomes ill at camp, they may be sent home, subject to the discretion of the camp nurse and first aid policies.

Medication

Church/Group Partners

  • Please watch the short video regarding sending medication to camp. Watch the video
  • Designate a medical volunteer (ie. Registered Nurse, LVN, EMT, nursing student ect.) to assist with the collection of camper medication.
  • Provide the following document “Church Partner Medical Volunteer” to your medical volunteer with step-by-step instructions.
  • Log on to your Forest Home account for a list of medicines you should expect to receive from your campers.
  • Print this list so your medical volunteer can check off medications received.
  • Cross reference the medication the parent provides with the medication printed on the medication expected list to ensure all medications parents registered campers to take during camp are retrieved prior to departure from the church. This will help save time at check-in once at camp. Print the “Medicine Postcard” document on bright colored paper.
  • The postcard will be completed by the medical volunteer at the time medication is collected.
  • All medications must be in their original containers for both prescriptions and over the counter (OTC) store-bought medications.
  • All prescriptions must have their correct prescription labels.
  • Place all medications in a Ziploc bag with camper and church name on the bag. Place all medication in a plastic container to be transported and handed off to the First Aid Team.
  • Please provide the “Sending Medications to Camp” document to ALL parents.

Individual Campers

  • Place all medications in a Ziploc bag with camper name on the bag.
  • All medications must be in their original containers for both prescriptions and over the counter (OTC) store-bought medications.
  • All prescriptions must have their correct prescription labels
  • Print the “Medicine Postcard” document on bright colored paper and place within zip log back with medication.

The Health Techs on duty will distribute medication during each meal and can be found in the First Aid Station to distribute medications as needed throughout your stay.

Food Allergies & Dietary Restrictions

Please ensure that all dietary requests are indicated on your online medical form(s).

Our chefs are trained and able to accommodate the following common dietary allergies:

  • Gluten free diets
  • Dairy intolerances
  • Egg allergies
  • Vegetarian diets
  • Vegan diets
  • Nut allergies (all our kitchens are nut free facilities)

If you have a dietary need or allergy that our kitchen is unable to accommodate (like Celiac Disease), we require that you bring your own food to meet your dining needs during your stay.

  • If your camper is bringing their own food to camp, pack your pre-cooked meals in pre-portioned microwave-safe containers.
  • There are refrigerators for storage and microwaves for heating in all dining facilities for guests to use. (Please note there is no prep area)
  • If your camper is bringing their own food, please send it in appropriate containers for travel and ensure that it is labeled with your name.
  • We understand many allergies can be very severe, and we cannot fully guarantee that every item served is 100% free from airborne particles or other means of food allergy cross-contamination. The process of bringing your own precooked and pre-portioned food will limit the chance of any allergy cross-contamination.
  • There are other areas in camp that may cause allergic reactions that are out of our control, such as in retail food locations, vending machines, or other campers that may bring snacks.

If you have any additional questions, please contact our Director of Guest Dining, Cecilia Cabrera at Cecilia.Cabrera@foresthome.org and she will respond within 2-3 business days.

Health & Safety

At Forest Home, we deeply care about the safety of our campers in every regard. During the Counselor Meeting, we will walk all counselors through the steps and policies that the Forest Home staff, counselors, and campers will abide by while at camp. We will walk through camper safety expectations for the event so that we can ensure every student is safe while at Forest Home.

If there is a serious family emergency and a parent needs to contact their child while at camp, they may contact the Forest Home Roundhouse at 909-389-2300 and they can put them in contact with the Camp Director.

Learn more about our approach to child protection, medical care, emergency preparedness, food safety, and recreation safety.

Closed Campus

Forest Home is a closed campus. For the safety of all guests, only registered campers are permitted on-site. Please do not invite friends or family members to visit camp, even for a short period of time. Day passes are not available unless they have been approved in advance by the Camp Director.

Camper Contact

Camper Mail

We strongly encourage parents and guardians to send their camper mail in one of two ways:

  1. Pack any letters, cards, or packages in your camper’s suitcase for them to find once they arrive at camp.
  2. Group leaders are encouraged to collect all camper mail for their church / group on departure day.

Guardians can give camper mail to their group leader, ensuring that each piece of camper mail is labeled with the camper’s name and desired delivery day.

If you choose to send mail via USPS and it does not make it to your camper in time, Forest Home is not responsible for forwarding or returning parcels

Cell Phones

We encourage campers to leave all electronics (including cellphones) at home and ask that all our guests join us in our efforts to keep our public areas at Forest Home cellphone free. Forest Home will provide phone service for campers who need to contact their parents / guardians, but generally speaking, campers are not able to make or receive phone calls during camp. If there is a situation with your child at camp that warrants contact of their guardian (homesickness, injury, not cooperating, etc.), you will be contacted by our camp staff immediately.

Your campers’ experience is all-inclusive. They do not NEED to bring extra money to have a full camp-experience – all meals and most activities are paid for in your campers’ registration cost.
